5 Really Cool Dogs

'Course we wouldn't say that about ourselves, but today we were at Salcey, and we passed a human puppy on his bike. As he whizzed past he called "Five really cool dogs!!". What can we say? That is one very astute puppy; he should go far.

BeastBreak 2006 - Days 7 & 8

Yesterday pretty well followed the same pattern as the day before: late start, beach, sleep, woods, tea, sleep, then over to Waj's house. Got to agree with Troy that as days go it's about as good as you're goin' to be gettin'. Whoile we were at Waj's I heard his mum ask if we were ready to go home. I did have a sloit think about it. Just consider where Waj and his gang live, and what they have - woods and fields at the bottom of the garden, beaches just up the road. And the bedroom window was great for looking out for the cats, then running down the stairs and into the garden to bark at them. Given all that, would you want to go home? Thought not.

Still, we did have to go. But at least the journey home was nicer than on the way. When we got home we asked mum and dad if we could go again, and got them to send some of our dog food tokens to let Beryl and Waj know we really mean it. So now we're just waiting for them to say we can.

Anyway, we want to say thank you from all of us to Waj, Beryl, Faith, Lucy and Poppy for letting us stay, and to say we enjoyed ourselves very much. And to say "Hi" to Callie, Hugo, Magic and Zara, and to let them all know we enjoyed our walk, and want to do more next time.

And for Zara, here's a pic of you with your dad.

BeastBreak 2006 - Day 6

If you was to ask me my idea of grey'ound 'eaven it's would be some'ink very close to today.

'Coz it's our 'ols we weren't exactly up wiv the larks, but when we did get our bits in gear we went off to the beach again - same one as yesterday. And today we 'ad it all to ourselves, so basically we went bonkas.

First off we went an' 'ad some chasin' games. Then mum went in the sea, so we went wiv 'er like, then an' 'ad some chasin' games in the sea. Then some more chasin' games in an' out of the sea. Kai and Maple was 'avin' a right old larf - they was really goin' for it.

We was goin' over to Waj's gaff later, so dad decided he'd take us out for annuva ball o' chalk and wear us out, 'specially Jack. 'Ave to say I fought 'ee was a bit rude last night. Waj popped over to see us wiv Beryl an' Lucy an' their mum Carol. Everyone was gettin' on famous like, except Jack who acted the big I am wiv Waj. Poor old Waj weren't doin' nuffin', an' was well 'appy to let Jack be the boss; but was Jack 'appy wiv that? Oh no, 'ee just kept on and on. Well out of order if you ask me.

So anyway, dad wanted us all well chilled for over at Waj's, so we went down the fields an' 'ad a bit of a charge about down there.

The uvver lads down the field
The uvver lads down the field

When we got back dad said 'ee was going to 'ave a go wiv Jack's Uzi. Now I know 'ee was a bit of a bulshy sod last night, but I never knew Jack 'ad gear like that. Makes you wonder if Kai 'as a Kalashnikov stashed away somewhere.

But 'ere's a weird thing, after 'alf an hour wiv Jack's Uzi dad comes back all wet like 'ees 'ad a barf or sumink. Couldn't suss that one at all.

A bit later we goes over the way to Waj's gaff, an' I tell yer now, Jack didn't do nuffin'. Well, except for the first time ever 'ee got on a sofa for a kip.

So 'ows this for a beast bash: there was Waj and 'is mob - Beryl, Lucy, Faith, Poppy and Kishka; there was Callie Canine, Hugo Bossanova, Black Magic and Princess Zara; there was Layla (Kai said she was a dead spit of Izzy); there was Max and Corky; and there was us. By my reckonin' that's 18 beasts in one 'ouse; plus we all took our 'umans as well - 'ave to say they were very well be'aved.

Some of the 'umans at Waj's
Some of the 'umans at Waj's
Some of the 'umans at Waj's

I did me usual an' made sure all the 'umans was OK by givin' 'em a bit of a lean like. As there was eight of 'em it was a bit of a full time job, but I managed. No 'elp from anyone else though - they all crashed out on the sofas. Mind you, even I 'ad to 'ave a kip later on.

Me 'avin' a kip

Anyway, it was a good old bash, Waj an' 'is crew did us proud, and we didn't get 'ome 'til gone 1 o'clock, wot meant this mornin' was anuvver slow start.

But now we're off out, so I'd best go quick.

Cheers,
Troy

BeastBreak 2006 - Day 5

Last night we were party animals; all the humans - mum and dad, Carol and Trevor, and Kas and Dave (they are on holiday here too) went out last night, and came back very happy. Mum got back first, and took us over to Waj's pad where we had a bit of a party. Then Dad and Trevor turned up, followed by Jason a bit later. Kai settled himself on the sofa, but me and Monty played with everyone outside.

Thing was it did mean we were very late to bed, and so very late up this morning; still, we are on our holibobs. But as dad promised, we did get to the beach today.

The other day was my first time on a beach, and I liked it, so I was really looking forward to going to one today. Aunty Carol had told mum and dad about a very nice beach where not many people go, so we thought we might be able to have a good run around.

Me on the Beach
Me on the Beach

When we got there there were only three humans there, and they had gone out into the big pond (Kai told me it's called the sea), so we went to join them, with Troy leading the way; I think they were a bit surprised to have five beasts swimming with them.

Planning our next game

Apart from that we had the whole beach to ourselves and we played some really good chasing games. Until, that was, a herd of horses turned up. They spent ages running up and down the beach were the sea meets the sand. I guess I can see the fun once or twice, but they did it loads of times. Mind you, if you're going to let a human sit on your back maybe doing things is fun. We did a bit of exploring on the rocks while the were there, but after they went we went back to out chasing games.

Kai said beaches were good, and he is dead right. I would like to go to one every day, but I don't think we can when we are at home. 'Spose I'd better make the most of while we're here.

Got to go - tea's ready. Speak soon.

BeastBreak 2006 - Day 4

We met Waj and his gang today!!

After yesterday's hike we all had a lie in. The weather was dull and grey first thing; another reason why getting up wasn't a high priority. Even Maple, our tame Exocet, couldn't be bothered to get activated.

When we did finally stir from our pits dad said we were going to Broad Haven, but a different one from yesterday. But then Carol turned up on the dorstep and the plan plan changed; instead we were going to walk with the Little Dumpdale posse:

Waljan, Beryl - aka the Hairy Bear - reputed to be some what like my good self, Lucy - the terrorist whippiest thing in the world, Faith, Poppy, and Kishka.

Meeting Beryl was a bit like looking at myself. I have never seen another beast like me before, but apart from being a bit smaller than I am, Beryl and me are just the same. Turns out, despite all the rumours spread by Waj, that Beryl is a very nice lady. 'Coz I don't know my family tree I don't know if we are related, but it wouldn't surprise me if we are somehow.

Beryl
Beryl

Waj is vey big and very hairy. He doesn't run fast in the same way that I do, but he goes a very long way with each bound. He showed us where to go today.

Waj
Waj

Lucy is Lucy, and to anyone that knows her that is enough. To those that don't: imagine that you had the most precious thing in the galaxy and you left it lying around - that would be fair game for Lucy, and she would chew it with such style that wouldn't be upset she'd chewed it. Her favourite plaything is Poppy.

Lucy
Lucy

Poppy is called the pudding dog, and one look at her tells you why. But she keeps up with the others, and keeps on going when everyone else has stopped for a rest.

Faith kind of kept herself to herself. She did let me and Jack know it was her house when stood at the bottom of the steps - like we didn't know.

And Kishka is a very pretty girl. I did bump in to her on the walk and she shouted at me, but we made friends afterwards, and I think she might fancy me.

Mum stroking Beryl
Mum stroking Beryl - did she get the right beast?

We all went out with their human called Jason - well, he's Kishka's human, but she shares him with the others. We took mum and dad with us. We went on their usual walk in the fields - where we went the other day. When we got to the bottom another four beasts joined us - Calvin Canine, Hugo Boss, Black Magic and Zara - with their human Andy. That meant there were 15 beasts out for a walk, and we all had a great time.

Waj at his pad

Then we went back to Waj's place while the humans had a rest, and Troy had a lean on Carol. Me and Jack pestered dad and he took us back down the fields again - well it was a nice afternoon. And this time we all had a mad chase; Jack and me started it, then Maple and Troy joined in. Have to say we were all ready to go home this time.

Dad said we could go to the beach tomorrow, which I am really looking forward too.

Bye,
Kai

BeastBreak 2006 - Day 3

When we got up this morning the boys were wanting a bit of a lie in, but I had other ideas; I was ready to play, so that is just what we did. I wound Monty up again and got a game of chase out of him - he's soooooo easy to do that to, and then had a bit of a bundle with Jack. It was all a bit grey outside first thing, but dad said we were going out for a walk, and that was good enough for us.

We started off at a place called Bosham and walked to the beach. That's where we met Brydie, an Irish Wolfhound, and that meant dad went all gaga; he tried swapping us - as usual. Brydie was nice and very pretty in a big shaggy sort of way.

Brydie

After the beach we went up to the cliff tops. That was fab; you could see for such a long way, and it smelt of rabbits everywhere. Mind you, is my cousin Troy a whuss or what? We had to get through some gates - dad called them kissing gates. He held them halway open and we all, well nearly all, walked round the gate, but Troy was scared. He managed most of them eventually, but at one he would not go through and dad had to lift him over the fence; sometimes it is just so embarrassing to be related to him.

Saddle Bay

From the cliffs we went to another beach that was nearly empty, and then to the cafe at Stackpole Quay where we stopped for a rest. There was a very long dog with short legs there; dad said we were related as we were also dash hounds - didn't quite see how as I'm sure it couldn't run as fast as us. A very nice lady came and said hello to us, and to show just how nice she was, I let her stroke me. I guess I don't have to say who she fancied most - yes, it was Kai. Mum and dad had some lunch and we had two ice creams between us. While we were eating them (Jack trying to eat more than most), a lady walking past said she would like to be a dog in our family; have to say I quite like it.

Then we walked across Stackpole Park to the lakes at Bosham. It sounded like we were on holiday in Baghdad. Dad said there was somewhere near that people played at soldiers before they went it did it for real. When we got to the lakes we knew we nearly back to where we started, which we were all glad about as it had been quite a long walk and we were all getting tired, even cousin Troy wasn't trying to be in front all the time anymore. And we got back just in time as it started to rain just we got in the car.

Must finish now as I can here tea going into my bowl.

Speak soon,
Maple.

PS Kai says he enjoyed the walk, but was a bit sad today as it was two years ago that his friend Izzy went away.

BeastBreak 2006 - Days 1 and 2

We invaded Wales yesterday, and are now resident in Swallows Dance. The journey down had couple of hitches, and dad even had to find a detour at one point, so we didn't get here until early evening.

We met Carol and Trevor then they showed us around the house, and very nice it is too; a big garden we can run around in with views out over the fields; even Monty - Mr. Home Boy - thought it was OK, and Maple quite liked Carol. We left mum and dad to get our stuff in while we explored a bit, then we went out with dad while mum got things sorted.

We found a huge field were we all had a good run, then wandered on for a bit, but to be honest we were all pretty tired. So back home and some tea and we were ready for bed.

Today we didn't get up very early, but when we did Maple was raring to go; she managed to wind Monty up until he played with her, then we had good fun running into the garden and barking at a cat, then running back in again. Later on we went out to the beach. We were going to go to Whitesands, but when we got there the man at the car park said we weren't allowed on until the end of the month - not much use as we are only here for a week - so we went to Newgale, which while we were allowed on the beach, we couldn't have a run around. This was Troy's and Maple's first time on the beach. Troy was normal Troy, just wanted to get to the other end - which was a long way, but he didn't like the waves coming in around his feet. Maple wanted do drink the sea - not the best idea.

We met some nice people and their owners: first we met Brychan, a very handsome lurcher chap (like me), and his sister Carys. We had a nice sniff with Brychan, Carys just stood there and barked. Then we met Marley - he'd come up with his owner from near Bristol so he could go fishing.

While beach was nice, it was a bit frustrating not to have a run, so we got dad to take us out when we got back home. And boy, did we go on a walk? We went to the fields we found last night, then we went through some woods and into some more fields, then onto a path surrounded by bracken, then more woods and more fields. When we got back after a hour and a half we were ready for tea. Monty's already gone to bed, Jack's snoring, and I'm not far behind them.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow already, and hopefully we'll meet Waj and his gang - mum and dad already have.

Bye,
Kai

Romp at Ratby Burroughs

We went some where new today - Ratby Burroughs. For once we got there first, then George, Winnie and Harry with their mum Julie turned up next, quickly followed by Tom and Cheese with a new friend who answered to Fisbee among other things with their mum and dad Lynne and Colin - Troy ued to live with them for a bit. Then Cassie and the "terrorist" (which meant Jackie - one of Kai's hareem - was also there). Last of all a couple of new beasts turned up, Billy and Foxy, with their mum Sue; she's a DogPages person.

Julie and Sue
Julie and Sue

We all set off into the Burroughs - really great place with trees to sniff and open places to run. Dad let Kai and me off, but I didn't fancy much of a run around to start with. Most of the other dogs were off too, including Jack, and it was all going fine. One of the big surprises for me was Cassie. Cassie is about 14, and defintely growing old disgracefully; if there was anything going on, that's where Cassie was to be found.

Cassie

We were all having a bit of a run, sniffing around for rabbits, when someone bumped into me and hurt my leg. I know no-one meant to hurt me, but they did, and I let everyone know in the usual greyhound manner. It took a couple of moments and some TLC from Lynne and dad before I was ready to carry on.

In the mean time some of the others had decided to have a bit of a mad bundle, and Jack was part of it; dad was not amused with him, but I think he and the others were just playing.

Once everyone had settled down, and my leg stopped hurting so much, we carried on.

Foxy
Foxy

Ratby Burroughs is a fab place for a walk. There are big areas of grass seperated by patches of woodland; best of both worlds - places to run and places to sniff. And there's stuff to roll in like Frisbee found - it was rather wonderfully smelly.

Frisbee
Frisbee

The only thing that I didn't like (apart from hurting my leg) was some of the things we had to get through: the first one we all had to duck under to get through the fence. It was pretty low and Troy bashed his back. The next one there was a gap in a fence which we could all get through. Colin decided he wasn't going straight through, but went for a look at the bottom of a ditch; I'm not sure he meant to.

Colin
Colin climbs out of the ditch

Later we found a stream that some of them went into - not me though, water's not my thing. Tom went for big paddle and came out looking like Troy does after a muddy walk at Salcey.

Colin, Lynne and Julie

The rest of the walk was fairly uneventful, except when Frizbee tried running straight through all of us and nearly tripped up on our leads. Back at the car park it was lucky that Jackie had plenty of water as dad had been a plonker and left ours at home. Mind you he did make up for it with tea - lambs hearts, mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

So we had a nice walk in a nice place with nice people then a nice tea. That's what I call a good day - even if my leg got bashed.
