James and The Beasts

For the past few weeks, Dad and Jack have been going out to homecheck people who have said they would like to rehome a hound. Today we went to Salcey Forest to meet up with one hound that's got a home after their visit - James, who has gone to live with Jenny and Stuart (the story of the homecheck is here).

Of course, being a sighthound, one expected James to be a decent sort, but having been out with him today I can tell you that he is an exceptionally nice chap. Here he is with his new mum and dad.

James is about six, and apparently stayed with his trainer after racing, but didn't enjoy it there very much. Eventually he found his way to Greyhound Gap, into a foster home for a while - which he liked, and then here to Northampton. To say his mum is besotted - well - only just ever such a lot. I think James is going to be a very happy hound from now on.

We took James to some of our favourite bits of the forest, and while here he was allowed off the lead for a bit; and ohhhhh boy - did he enjoy that? I stayed with him to look after him, and when dad called me I got James to come with me; which he did without a fuss. And next time his mum and dad called him and he went straight back to them, so he must like them.

And here we all are - we like having pictues of us with our friends.

When we all set off again I think this lot thought they were getting left behind - as if!!

Before we set out, James's mum and dad said that he wasn't very fit, and were wondering how far to go with him. Well, let me tell you, he might not have run around quite as much as we did, but he was very interested in everything all the way round the walk.

And we walked for over an hour. OK, sometimes we go for two or more hour walks over here, but we'd been here twice in the last few days, and on Friday we were out for nearly three hours, so today was just about right. James enjoyed it, and I think he's going to be another regular over at Salcey.

When we got back the humans sat down for a bit and talked human stuff, and Monty became the leaning post for James and Jack; no prizes for guessing where Troy was leaning.

So we had a nice afternoon, James has got himself a great new home and mum and dad, and we've got a new friend. Doesn't get much better than that, does it?
