Boxing Day Wakerley Woods Walk

May I start by wishing all the readers of BeastBlog a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Tradition has it that Boxing Day is the day one walks out after the festivities of Christmas Day, and today we did just that. We went to Wakerley Woods where we were to meet up with hounds and humans from Greyhound Gap - Gappers as they are known.

Unusually we arrived first and before the arranged meeting time. The arranged meeting time came - and went - and still no sign of anyone else. We were in the BeastBus, not the easiest thing to miss, so wondering if others had parked right up the other end we went to look; no they hadn't. Walking back to the van we saw a group of lurchers and went to see if they were here for the Gap walk; no they weren't; but they did admire our jumpers. We were beginning to wonder if anyone else was coming, when just at that moment Cheese, Tom, Linus and Lettice arrived with Colin, Lynne and Jackie. We waited a bit longer as some other people said they were coming. But no-one did so we set off.

Jack and I walked Jackie - Cassie didn't want to come out today, so she had no-one to look after her. We kept getting stopped by people asking about greyhounds (they never ask about lurchers though), and one couple in particular stopped for a really long chat.

Lucy wound dad up - though it was his fault really. She had a poo - as you do, and dad went to pick it up. To do that he put his camera down - a few paws behind Lucy who then proceeded to what should be done when ever possible, spread stuff about - all over dad's camera. His own stupid fault for putting there if you ask me.

We had a nice chat with Cheese, Tom, Linus and Lettice; Linus was particularly chatty. They'd had a nice Christmas Day too, and truth be told, I think we all needed to get out and walk off some Christmas dinner. It was Linus and Lettice's first with Tom and Cheese, so it was very special for them; they both said they never knew about Christmas before.

Back at the car park and it was treats as usual with sausages and gravy biscuits, then back home were it's soon tea time with left over turkey. I love Christmas.

PS Dad said to say he thought Colin's boots were very manly - the shirt less so.
