My Broken Leg

My broken leg is on the mend. Dad took me to the vet yesterday and he took some more pictures of the inside of my leg. Afterwards he said that my leg was mending as well as could possibly be hoped for and I was doing really well given the extent of the injury.

I'd like to thank everyone that has been nice to me and wished me well on all the forums; it's nice to know so many people care.

Loads of people have asked how I did it; to be honest I don't know. Kai and me are always last to go back to dad - well, when you have five other hounds to look after him it shouldn't need us as well should it? So off we went as usual, then next thing I know I'm lying on the ground and my leg hurts. I heard dad call and Kai went off to get him. Then Kai appears back with dad who carried me back to the van - eventually.

These are the pictures that Mr. Onyett - the vet - took before he mended my leg.

My Leg Before it was Fixed

It took the vet two goes to fix my leg because the bone was so shattered, but he put in two plates that I'll have there forever.

Of course, to put the plates in they needed to cut my leg right open. Dad says I looked like Frankenstein's greyhound!!

'Coz the plates are the only thing that will support my leg until the bones grow back I'm not allowed to jump and run - even now - and that is really boring.

Anyway, the vet said that the plates are just where he put them. He also watched me walk up and down - a greyhound on a cat-walk, how cool is that? - and said my gait was really good. It hurts sometimes and I do limp then, but for the most part it's fine.

The pictures the vet took on Friday showed that the bone is starting to grow back and that the bits are starting to be absorbed. I have to go back to the vet in another six weeks for some more pictures which I hope will show the bone has really grown. Mr. Onyett is looking forward to seeing the pictures too; he says that my leg was a really interesting case 'coz of the severity of the injury; I am so pleased to have made his day. (Note to self: make vets lives boring in the future).

And last of all I want to thank my mate Kai for helping dad find me quickly, the ladies at the emergency vet and especially Mr. Onyett for fixing it.

So glad that Monty is on the mend. We had been thinking about him. Was not surprised to find that Jeremy Onyett did his operation. He did Josie's spinal op too. The man is nothing short of a genius as far as we are concerned and we were so grateful to him for diagnosing, so quickly, Josie's problem. Give Monty a big kiss for being such a brave boy and we hope to see him soon! xx
