From White Lodge to Salcey Forest

Dad's was away last week on business, so we spent the time at the White Lodge Hotel. Today mum and dad came to pick us up to home, then later dad took us over to our favourite place for a walk - Salcey Forest.

As you will know if you read our coming events on our home page, we are doing a Meet and Greet there on the 6th and 7th of May - the Sunday and Monday of the first Bank Holiday, so dad had a chat with the cafe owners, Catherine and Mick, to sort out were we could do it. They have only just taken on the cafe, but were well happy to help out and think us hounds need all the help we can get once out of the racing industry - which we do, and said we could set up on the lawn near the cafe which everyone passes as they arrive - which is brilliant - so we like Catherine and Mick. Then we set off on our walk.

It was great to be back at Salcey, and 'coz it was a fab day dad took on a really long walk. Troy and Maple were well up for it.

Kai was well happy playing with sticks.

But it was pretty warm in the forest, and after having some chasing games it was time for a breather -

and a drink -

then back to the action.

As I said earlier, it was really nice day, and you tell that spring is really here 'coz things are getting green and the flowers are coming out.

Two hours after we set out we got back to the BeastBus, then home. One of the things about hotel life is you never do quite as much as when you're at home - well, why should you? it's s'posed to be relaxing. Thing is though, those two hours tired us all out, and after a nice tea we are all ready for our beds now.

Speak soon,
Monty

Meet and Greet and Walk at Salcey Forest - May BH

We usually tell you about what we've been up to - this time it's about what we're going to get up to.

We are doing a two day session for Greyhound Gap over the early May Bank Holiday - Sun 6th and Mon 7th May - at Salcey Forest between 10am and 4pm each day.

We'll be doing a Meet and Greet and mugging people for their money collecting donations from the public, and because it's such a brilliant place to go for a walk we thought it would be good to do just that. So on each day we'll be setting off at 11:30 and 2 o'clock for a walk (leaving someone and some hounds at the stall of course). The walks are on good paths, so decent shoes as opposed to wellies is the order of the day.

Salcey Forest is located about six miles south of Northampton near the village of Hartwell, just a few minutes from J15 of the M1 (click here for directions). As well as the walks (which includes the treetop walk), there is a cafe, child play area, and loos.

There are links to maps and more information about Salcey Forest on The Beastly Beasts home page.

Regular reader of BeastBlog will know that we like at Salcey, and so do loads of other people - it can get quite busy at weekends - so there should be loads of people who's attention we can attract.

At the Coventry and Northampton Pets at Home Meet and Greets we did pretty well, and we're hoping for good things this time too.

Please come and join us over the Bank Holiday if you possibly can - we'd love to see you.

2 Years as a Beastly Beast

Dey say dat toime floies when your havin' fun; Oi guess dat it must be true as today is two years since Oi came to stay with Kai and Monty. OK, so Oi turned up as a foster, but Oi had other plans as soon as I saw what it was loike. Don't be gettin' me wrong now; Oi was well looked after at de Whoite Lodge, but if we're puttin' it in human terms, it's a bit loike moving from de hostel to de Ritz if you know what Oi mean, and where would you rather stay?

So here Oi am, a permant fixture. Had me check up with de lovely Sarah last week , an she says Oi'm as fit as a fiddle; and Sam was dere at de reception - she's one of me number one fans, tinks Oi'm georgeous, so she got a kiss.

Me
Me

And what a day; my 2nd homecomin' day, de March Whoite Lodge Walk, and de final of de Crufts. Now tell me, who'd want to be poncin' about a ring with someone touchin' your privates, when you can out whit yer mates on a Whoite Lodge Walk? You can guess where we went.

The day started whit dad makin' de liver cake. It's one of our favourites so it is, an' we always hang around to lick de bowl and get de scraps. Today he made loads, and put extra noice tings in it - smelt and tasted grand - as I tink everyone on de walk will agree. You can find out how to make it for your hounds by clicking here; Oi'll tell you, dey'll love forever if you make dem some.

Den it was into de BeastBus to go an' meet our mates for a walk. Now here's were it nearly all went wrong; to get out of Northampton took us ages as some people had decided dey'd drive their car into de soide of another car, and den just up de road dere was another person done de same ting. So dat made us late to start with. Den on de way de road was closed so we had to go moiles and moiles, so we was really late by de time we got dere, so late in fact dat we met everyone comin' back. Still, we did meet everyone, and stopped for a chat with dem all.

Buddy's one of our best mates, and his dad often has noice tings; today was no exception, and here's Kai doin' his "Feed Me" look, whoile Buddy does a pose.

Now, in all de excoitment Oi've clean forgotten dis ladies name - if your readin' dis my dear, drop us a line an' we'll make de changes. She was one of de smallest hounds out on de walk, but she is one fiesty lass. An' will you be lookin' at dose ears? Dey're huge - loike Maples!

One Feisty Lady

So as Oi was sayin', today is me two years as Beastly Beast, and Oi've enjoyed pretty much every moment of it. De house is noice an' warm, we get de good food, and we've got each other. But Oi've lived in kennels and done my toime on de track, an' Oi know dere's still loads aren't as lucky as Oi am. And even if de kennels is noice, it's still not de same as havin' your own home. And here's a lad dat's still lookin' for his own home. Dis is Dino.

Dino
Dino

Dino's been in de kennels now for 9 months. He goes and lives with people at de weekends sometoimes, but never to stay, and Oi tink dat's really sad. And Dino's a great lad; gets a bit gobby sometoimes, but so did Oi when I taught Oi had something to prove, so Oi'm sure he'll get over dat once he has a place of his own. He loikes to walk with de humans, loikes dere little ones, and is generally an OK kind o' guy. His only fault, if you can be callin' it dat, is he's not a fan of de felines - neither are any of us to tell de truth. Anyways, if you tink dat Dino moight be de lad for you drop me a loine at our contacts page.

One of de places dat Dino goes to stay is with Sol and his mum Alsion. Sol and Kai are good mates - dey reckon it's to do wit sometink called de Ginga Power. Roight lads; not sure what was in your liver cake, but Oi tink Oi'll be givin' it a miss. Anyways, dis is Sol.

Sol
Sol

Loike Oi said earlier, Buddy's one of our best mates, and after havin' a chat with everyone, loads of sausages, pork scratchin's and liver cake Oi needed a place to rest me head, and Buddy is just de roight height.

Me and Buddy

Den it was toime for everyone to home, but we hadn't had a walk yet, so off we set. And boy was it windy at de to of Burrough Hill; blew de cobwebs roight away. Still, some people made de most of it. Some guys were havin' some great fun in dere carts on kites. Oi wonder if dey'ed let a hound have a go?

Here's us at the topscope.

So even though de journey dere made us late gettin' dere, and after de walk we were late back, Oi had a really great 2nd Homecomin' Day. 'Course, Oi hope dere's loads more to come, for me and de loikes of Dino an' de others still lookin' for dere homes.

Love and licks,
Jack
