Who's Badder than Leroy Brown?

According to dad it's a bloke called Mack the Knife what's badder then Leroy Brown.

Anyway, last night we gets in from our walk at Salcey an dad disappeared straight out again. Comes back a bit a later wiv anuvver 'ound - a geezer called Mack 'ooo didn't 'ave and knives what I could see. And stone me, apart from the black patches it was like lookin' in the mirror - Dawg, he's a handsome lad.

Mack had been livin' down at MK wiv Grandma Squiggs, and she'd got 'im back to tip top condition like. Trouble was 'ee got a bit keen and took Grandma Squiggs and Gracie for a walk - all right, run - frooo an' 'edge in an attempt to get at a cat - unsuccessfully I might add.

So now 'ee's 'ere. We'll see 'ow strong 'ee is; I'm not givin' way to some young whipper-snappa just yet I can tell ya.

Anyways, 'ee's settled in OK, and this evenin' we went over Salcey again for a good long ball o' chalk; tire 'im out a bit. And, just for a change, it weren't chuckin' it down, so dad managed to get a few pics. First off 'ee did a bit of posin'.

We've all dun it - first few times on the long uns we all need to 'ave a lie down 'alf way round.

So Mack's here to stay until 'ee picks a decent 'ome to go to. No prospects just yet, but then again the 'umans have all gone off on their 'ols; there's no rush though.

'til next time then.

Hooch in his Shed

G'day mates,

we've had an ace card from Hooch about his new life in his Shed; seems he's as happy as Larry, an' he popped in a piccy to prove it.

Hooch
Hooch hard at work

He's been to a place called Bradgate Park and seen something called Deer - which he reckons might have been fun to go play with, but he had to keep the humans on the lead; guess he'll be doing that for a while 'til he's sure of them like.

We're planning to meet up with him at the next Greyhound Gap show on 16th September. 'Til then, way to go mate.

For me, I'm sorted here; while I like Hooch, you kinda know when you're home and I enjoy being with the lads here. Dad (I can call him that now) runs a tight pack, but that's spiffy. Last place me and Hooch were at one of us needed to take the top spot, and Hooch is not the kinda guy that's going to do that, so it fell to me; with dad in charge here I can just chill, and that suits me.

'Til next time possums,
Lucy

Lucy - the new Beastly Babe

As you will know from the previous post, Hooch is off to live with his new mum and dad in Shepshed; we visited them the other day to make sure they were suitable, and all of us agreed that they will give Hooch a great home; most importantly, Hooch likes them.

Which left Lucy.

Me, Monty, Jack and Troy had already spoken about this eventuality and agreed that if Hooch got a home before Lucy we'd offer her the post of Beastly Babe. Lucy fitted in from day one; she's "one of the lads" and gets on really well with all of us - Monty in particular - and has picked dad as her human.

We asked her when we got back from checking out Hooch's new humans, and I'm pleased to say she said yes - so Lucy is the new Beastly Babe, and officially a Beastly Beast.

Off to Live in a Shed

Your Hoochness here; doing my first, and last, blog as a Beastly Beast as I'm off to live in a shed.

Your Hoochness
Your Hoochness

Lucy and I came to stay with The Beastly Beasts towards the end of April. I must admit I wasn't relishing the idea of living with even more hounds, one was enough, but actually it's been rather fun - well, once I realised what the human chappie wanted of me.

Being an Oxford graduate one did have certain expectations, and indeed these were realised from time to time in our previous residence. However, the chappie here rules the pack, and it was soon clear that there was a distinct hierarchy with Lucy and myself at the bottom and feeding from the deli counter (humans call it the "worktop") and tuck shops ("bins" according to humans) was not permitted. Still, the tucker is regular and pretty decent so not having use of the facilities was a small price to pay. Lucy - butter would melt - adhered straight away, but then food doesn't seem so important to her.

At Salcey
At Salcey Forest

And of course there are the walks, particularly at Salcey Forest. The Beastly Beasts said we'd like it, and they were right - apparently everyone does. You can do your own thing there. Lucy hitched up with Monty and Troy and is in to everything. For myself, I teamed up with Jack. We like to appreciate our surroundings rather than just running around, and to leave messages for others that follow on as many vertical objects as we can.

So about this shed I'll be living in; the shed belongs to Shep (apparently he was a dog that used to be on TV), and I'll be living in a house in Shepshed with some nice humans called Sandra and Mark. And it will be just me - Lucy is not coming. In some ways that's a bit sad, but I think she's happier with the other chaps here, and it means I'll get all of the attention, which I'm rather looking forward to. And the lady's sister also has greyhounds, so it's not like I'll never have friends around.

Me in 2005

Monday will be my last day as a Beastly Beast; it will be a bit sad as I have enjoyed myself here, but I am looking forward to my new life too. I first met Kai, Monty and Jack back in May 2005 - two years before coming to stay with them; I hope it won't that long before I see them again. But for now it's thank you to all The Beastly Beasts for letting me stay for a while.

4 Years as a Beastly Beast

Amazing but true; it was four years ago I became a Beastly Beast. Back then Phelan was the Senior Beast; a role which passed to me all too quickly.

A lot has happened in four years, and many faces have come and gone; some unfortunately to the big kennel in the sky; Izzy, Vincent and Maple. But most are either still here, like Monty, Jack and Troy, or have gone to live in new homes like Titch, Shaggy, Dino, and Dick. And then there is our current pair of lodgers, Lucy and Hooch, though they have been here that long they hardly seem like lodgers any more.

And I've learnt lots about other hounds that need help while I've been here, and been to loads of places - my favourite is the seaside, but a close second is places where we help get dog food tokens off humans to help other hounds. And I've done loads of things; it's quite good fun being a Beastly Beast - rarely a dull moment. Let's see what another year brings.

Win a bottle of Wine

Reference
Through June to September we are offering you the chance to win a bottle of wine; all you you have to do is place an order the generates commission from Vet UK via The Beastly Beasts website and if it is the one that gets our commission up to £20 - the point at which we qualify for payment - we'll send you a bottle of wine to say thank you for ordering via us and helping raise money for hounds that help.

When our commission gets to £20 we'll publish the order number that got it there in the news section of our home page. All you have to do is get in touch via our contact page within 28 days of us publishing the order number and let us know the amount of your order (we'll use that to make sure it's you and not someone trying to get your bottle of wine), your name and address and whether you want red or white, and we'll pop it in the post as soon as we can - might take a day or due to the day job, but we'll let you know when it's on the way.

So until September, not only will you get great deals with free P&P on veterinary supplies, but you could get a bottle of wine to have at barbie too.

Please note: This offer is open to UK and Ireland residents only.
