Boxing Day Wakerley Woods Walk

May I start by wishing all the readers of BeastBlog a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Tradition has it that Boxing Day is the day one walks out after the festivities of Christmas Day, and today we did just that. We went to Wakerley Woods where we were to meet up with hounds and humans from Greyhound Gap - Gappers as they are known.

Unusually we arrived first and before the arranged meeting time. The arranged meeting time came - and went - and still no sign of anyone else. We were in the BeastBus, not the easiest thing to miss, so wondering if others had parked right up the other end we went to look; no they hadn't. Walking back to the van we saw a group of lurchers and went to see if they were here for the Gap walk; no they weren't; but they did admire our jumpers. We were beginning to wonder if anyone else was coming, when just at that moment Cheese, Tom, Linus and Lettice arrived with Colin, Lynne and Jackie. We waited a bit longer as some other people said they were coming. But no-one did so we set off.

Jack and me with Jackie
Jack and me with Jackie

Jack and I walked Jackie - Cassie didn't want to come out today, so she had no-one to look after her. We kept getting stopped by people asking about greyhounds (they never ask about lurchers though), and one couple in particular stopped for a really long chat.

Having a chat
Having a chat

Lucy wound dad up - though it was his fault really. She had a poo - as you do, and dad went to pick it up. To do that he put his camera down - a few paws behind Lucy who then proceeded to what should be done when ever possible, spread stuff about - all over dad's camera. His own stupid fault for putting there if you ask me.

We had a nice chat with Cheese, Tom, Linus and Lettice; Linus was particularly chatty. They'd had a nice Christmas Day too, and truth be told, I think we all needed to get out and walk off some Christmas dinner. It was Linus and Lettice's first with Tom and Cheese, so it was very special for them; they both said they never knew about Christmas before.

Back at the car park and it was treats as usual with sausages and gravy biscuits, then back home were it's soon tea time with left over turkey. I love Christmas.

PS Dad said to say he thought Colin's boots were very manly - the shirt less so.

Crimbo

G'day mates. Hope your Christmas Day was as bonnza as ours. This was my first Crimbo as a Beastly Beast, likewise for Mack and Rosie - so that's nearly half the crew!!

We had a slow old start to the day having been out for wander at Salcey yesterday. We wanted to get straight to the pressies, but dad said no - we had to wait for mum as she had gone to see her dad; dad can be a real meany sometimes - what else is Christmas day about? OK, back in Oz it's the beach and stuff, but that's not exactly the top option over here is it?

So we went over to Salcey and pretty much had the place to ourselves so had a great time. Back home dad carried on with getting the Christmas tucker ready, and we were in line for some.

At last it was time for the pressies. We'd joined in two Secret Santa's - one for Greyhound Gap and one for Sighthounds Online. We'd had a great time sortin' out what we were going to send, and all the parcels turning up for us over the last few weeks had been dead exciting.

So suitably relaxed from a charge around Salcey (apart from Monty - poor old boy still ain't allowed to go for it 'coz of his leg) and stuffed with turkey and roast potato, we got down to the serious business of the day - presents; and mates, did we do all right or what?

Lucy
Me in my Bandana

We all got loads of treats (dad said we could have some later), Troy got a fab collar with bells on and a squeaky, Kai, Monty, and Rosie got squeaky toys too, Rosie got some cool tassles, I got a fab bandana, and Mack bagged himself a very stylish coat; we'd like to say thanks to all our Secret - well, sort of secret; we know who most of you are now - Santa's.

Mack
Mack with a Toy

Poor old Rosie, she was a bit overcome by it all and just sat cuddling her duck.

Rosie with her Duck
Rosie with her Duck

The rest of did what all good hounds do and set about disembowling the squeaks. And I've gotta say that while Kai is persistent, for sheer enthusiasm Troy takes some beating.

Except for Monty that is; it was all a bit much for 'im so he had a kip.

Must go as we are about to head out on our Boxing Day walk; we're goin' to meet up with some Gappers. Merry Christmas from all of us, and enjoy your Boxing Day.

2007 - A Look Back by The Beasts

2007 has been quite an eventful year at BeastBarracks; here's some of the highlights - and lowlights - from The Beastly Beasts and me.

January

Chris:
We got our first sale on the Vet UK affiliate program. This has now raised £118.53, all of which goes to greyhound rescues. Thank you to everyone that has bought their vet supplies using our link.

Troy:
We got our own motor with the arrival of The BeastBus.

February

Kai:
Our website was selected as Dog Site of the Day for the 1st Feb.

Shaggy left us - he'd been staying with us for a bit - to go and live with Sam.

March

Jack:
One of de quieter munts. Oi clocked up me two years as a Beastly Beast on de same day as de Whoite Lodge walk.

April

Monty:
April was an eventful month. The 1st of the month saw us up at White Lodge where Kai, Troy and I became blood donors for Pet Blood Bank UK. For me that had some consequences, but more on that later.

Kai:
While we were at the Lodge we asked Dino if he'd like to stop with us for a while; he said yes.
Turned out it was only for a week as Dino went to live with Nancy and Roberto where, by all accounts, he is living the life of Riley. At the White Lodge walk that month we met up with Hooch again along with Lucy. And seeing as Dino had got a home, we asked Dick if he would like to come home with us, which he did.

Jack:
De big walks are usually whit de Whoite Lodge, but in April we met up whit some udder hounds from de Greyhound Gap at Coombe Abbey. One of mums mates wanted to meet us, so he came too whit his puppy Mia. T'was a grand day.

Troy:
Dis mumf 'ad the saddest fing of the year, and it still gets us down when fink about it. My cousin Maple celebrated 'er first year wiv us. To be 'onest, I reckon she'd 'ad the 'ardest life out of all of us, but in that year she 'ad a great time, and, after a bit of shaky start 'ad well an truly learnt the being Beastly Beast is a larf. Only for 'er to drop dead a few day later. Where ever you are darlin', we still fink of ya and still miss ya.

Kai:
However, there was some good news; Dick got himself a new place of residence and a new name - Sarraf, and we asked Hooch and Lucy if they would like to come a stay with us - which they did.

May

Chris:
We made our first donation from the Vet UK affiliate program to Greyhound Gap.

Kai:
Over the first holiday weekend we were at Salcey Forest raising money for Greyhound Gap; it chose this weekend to rain for the first time in ages. We were helped by Greg, Sol, Mille and Bess, and Skye on the Sunday and Patch and Mikey and their humans Sally and Ewen on the Monday.

Monty:
We'd had our results from the PPBuk blood doning. I'd got raised ALT levels and a test at our vet confirmed it - not good.

Chris:
The APGAW report on Greyhound Welfare was published. For the first time an official report and the greyhound racing industry admitted that greyhounds die in huge numbers.

Kai:
On the Sunday of the late holiday we went to the Greyhound Gap show.

June

Lucy:
We went to Bowood. Ace day out and I got to lie in a load of beds - neat.

Kai:
June saw most of us doing our second blood donation. Due to his enzyme levels Monty was unable to donate this time.

Monty:
My enzyme levels went from bad to worse and I got worried.

July

Lucy:
First big news story for July was that me mate Hooch got himself a home with Sandra and Mat in Shepshed.

Second big news story was I became the Beastly Babe.

Mack:
And the third was that I came to stay with The Beastly Beasts.

August

Monty:
My enzyme levels were back to normal and for the first time in ages I didn't have to worry.

Kai:
Rosie came to stay. Despite her somewhat unconventional greeting when we first met we have become really good friends.

Lucy:
We got our Grey Sweaters. I just love mine; they look cool and keep you warm.

Troy:
Yours truly became the face of Grey Sweaters.

September

Chris:
Our next donation from the Vet UK affiliate program went to Tailends.

Monty:
We were at the second Greyhound Gap show selling Greyt Sweaters, and I entered the fancy dress as Dennis the Menace.

Troy:
Dad got the BeastBus sorted; now we're motorin'!!

Kai:
But the best thing this month was that we went on our holidays!!

October

Kai:
We got our own bank account.

Chris:
We registered with easyfundraising to raise more money for greyhound rescues.

Monty:
I broke my leg.

Mack:
Rosie and Oi becayme blood donors; all the other Beasts - except Monty - did it for their second or thirrd toime.

Rosie:
I tried agility and thought it was just fab!!

November

Lucy:
Me old mate Hooch came to stay for a couple of weeks.

Jack:
Me, Kai an' Troy went along to de collection for Northants Greyhound Rescue. Dey raised nearly a tousand pounds, only to need it de very next day.

Chris:
The Donoughue Report - titled "INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF THE GREYHOUND INDUSTRY IN GREAT BRITAIN was published. This one paragraph shows that it will be business as usual and that the whole report was a complete waste of time and money:
"Given the numbers of greyhounds retiring from racing each year, it seems unlikely that all can be re-homed and therefore some euthanasia may be inevitable, as is accepted in the NGRC Rule 18 as a last resort. But it is important that this be done professionally and humanely."

December

Jack:
We was at Coventry to help Rory and his mates rasin' some money for Greyhound Gap. Den we went to Syston to do some more, and den we had our own Meet an' Greet in Northampton. Dem tree days raised £1,200 for hounds what is needin' de help - dat's grand.

From me, Gill and The Beastly Beasts - thank you to everyone that has supported us this year. Have a great Christmas and we hope 2008 is everything you want it to be.

Meet and Greet

Yesterday was our Meet an' Greet at Pets at Home to raise some readies for Greyhound Gap; you might remember we done one last year.

We pitched up about 'alf nine an' mum an' dad got the stand set up wiv all the leaflets an' stuff. While they was doing that some chap bunged us some money - and we 'adn't even started!!

The Stand
The Stand

Pets at Home was dead good and let us put our banner outside the shop so everyone could see it was us.

The Banner
The Banner

Soon after we was ready a lady called Marion turned up. She knows Aunty Claire dead well and goes on The Refuge forum thinggy (she's called ChickenTikka there). She knew all about us and was really nice to us all, but especially Rosie 'oo she thought was beautiful.

Then Jayne and 'er puppies, Charlotte, Jessica and Tom came along. We all like Jayne 'cos she comes round if mum and dad is out, and 'er puppies sometimes keep us company like.

Morning Shift
Aunty Marion wiv Kai and Tom wiv Jack

And then this chap called Joey turns up wiv a lady called Wanda (you gotta say the W like a V), an' 'ere's a fing - Joey is a Gap 'ound wot she's fosterin', the first Gap 'ound that's come along to one of our gigs; way to go mate, great to meet ya! Poor sod, 'ee's only free but 'is gnashers were that bad they 'ad to take 'em all out except 'is fangs; makes chewin' a pigs ear a job and an 'alf I bet.

Joey
Joey wiv 'is Foster Mum

That was the morning shift sorted so we got down to the business of accosting punters. We wanted to get at least as much dosh as we did last year so we decided to go balls out for it (bit of irony there given the state of our bits). If you read Jack's blog about the Coventry bash and Rosie's about Syston last week you'll know she loves doin' these. So we decided to 'ave a bit of a competition to see 'oo could accost the most punters. We 'ad a right larf. My technique - as usual - was 'ead under the arm and onto the leg then lean on 'em, Rosie'd do a little jump or go 'ead first for the groin. If there was only one we'd both 'ave go at 'em, an' then to top it all Mack'd get in on the act and pin 'em darn from the uvver side then not let 'em go 'til they put dog food tokens in the tin; funny fing is, the punters loved it.

'Spose I'd better say that we only did that wiv the grown ups. Me and Mack left the 'uman puppies alone - they ain't really our fing, but Rosie was dead good and was well gentle wiv 'em.

Rosie
Rosie wiv an 'Uman Puppy

Joey's a dab paw at Meetin' an' Greetin' an' all. 'Ee went about it in a more subtle way than us like, but every time I looked over he'd got someone strokin' 'im. Even Lucy got stuck in, and Monty didn't go an' lie down to well into the afternoon, which is well unusual for 'im - 'spose 'ee's got an excuse at the moment wiv 'is leg 'an all.

Joey
Joey wiv a Punter

Josie was only goin' to stop for an hour or so but she stayed loads longer than that. Eventually she 'ad to take Ann and Norman 'ome. By the way, Normans's great for leanin' on, an' Mack agrees wiv me - cheers bloke. An' you might reckon that Josie's mum is a sensible kind of lady, not the sort that goes an' gets tattoos an' stuff. Well, you'd reckon wrong 'coz she's got a greyhound tattoo; not numbers in 'er ears like, but a tattoo of a greyhound. Dad made her strip so 'ee could see it!!

Tattoo
Aunty Ann's Tattoo

The words say "Semper Fidelis" wot, as I'm sure you know, means "Always Faithful", wot is spot on 'coz I'm always faithful to 'ooever I'm leanin' on, and Jack is always faithful to 'ooever 'as the treats!!

Marion was anuvver one only stopping for about an hour too - that didn't go to plan then; it was well gone one by the time she left.

By that time Noah 'ad turned up wiv Sam and Mark in tow. 'Ee's a case is Noah - 'ee stands around lookin' like 'ee's not quite sure and the punters love it.

Noah
Noah Doin' 'Is Stuff

All through the day we 'ad a constant stream of people, and that meant people to lean on and stroke us; it's a tough job but all of us managed to cope. Couple of people were really nice and bought us some treats - special fanks to them.

Brindle Babes
The Brindle Babes - Lucy an' Rosie

I'm gonna digress for a bit 'ere, coz among the people wot turned up today there is a load of connections. So, one of Wanda wiv a V's 'ounds was called Jill and came over from Ireland wiv our Jack - Jack an' Jill, geddit? Then Marion 'ad 'elped bring Mack to White Lodge, an' of course it was Aunty Sam's mum - Grandma Squiggs - wot had 'im first from there. And Aunty Sam 'elped sponsor Monty over from Ireland three years ago; she told us that she'd promised the ladies from Wexford that she'd go an' see 'im at White Lodge over the Christmas 'ols, only for 'im to go 'ome wiv Kai a few days after arrivin'. Small world innit?

Mack
Mack

Monty
Monty

Anyway, back the Meet an' Greet. We was gonna 'ang around 'til four, but even though is was gettin' dark there was still people comin' to see us so we 'ung on a bit longer. About 'alf four it started rainin' - nuff said and we did a runner to the BeastBus well sharpish and left the 'umans to pack up.

Then they went into shop to get a few bits and bobs, Noah went too, and a lady asked why Noah was all dressed up. When Sam told this lady why she gave Sam a quid to add to what we'd collected.

Afternoon Shift
Joey, Kai, Noah, Lucy and Jack

I 'spose you wanna know 'ow many spondoolies we got for Gap. Well, let me say we all feel pretty chuffed wiv ourselves. and Joey, Josie and Noah, coz each one of us 'ounds managed to get nigh on £70 durin' the day. The actual total was £697.71, but we got dad to bung in the extra few bob to round it up to seven 'undred quid.

Lucy and Troy
Lucy 'Avin' a Lean on Me

So it is mega-thanks to Marion aka ChikkenTikka ('oo fell in love wiv Rosie), to Josie an' 'er mum Ann ('oo fell in love wiv Rosie) and dad Norman (top draw leanin' post), to Jayne ('oo loves Rosie - spotted a theme 'ere anyone?) an' 'er puppies Charlotte, Jessica and Tom, to Joey 'oo stopped all day wiv 'is foster mum Wanda wiv a V (an' not a fish joke in sight), an' Noah wiv 'is mum an' dad Sam an' Mark for pitchin' up an' 'elpin' in the afternoon - a lot of the pics wot I've used were taken by Aunty Sam, so thanks for that too.

Kai
Kai

Jack
Jack

Noah
Noah

And thanks also to Pets at Home for lettin' us do our thing, and last - but by no means least - to everyone wot put money in our tins; you all 'elped to make it great day. Fing is, the money is well needed 'coz there are loads of 'ounds that ain't as lucky as wot we are an' need 'elp at the moment.

Troy
Yours T

So to everyone wot I've mentioned, and to anyone wot reads this, 'Appy Christmas from all The Beastly Beasts, an' let's 'ope 2008 is a good year for all of us - 'ounds and 'umans.

Cheers!!

Meet and Greet at Syston

I'm still finding out about all the friends that The Beastly Beasts have. Take yesterday for example; we went to a place called Syston for the afternoon to do another of the these Meet and Greet things, and it turns out one of the ladies running it was the the lady that gave Monty a lift to home three years ago. I think I still have things to learn about being a Beastly Beast and all the people they know.

Now, about this Meet and Greet. These things are a right laff; you stand around, people come up to you and give you lots of love, then put dog food tokens in tins. Some stop for a chat but nearly everyone says how nice all the hounds are.

The stall
The Stall

When we got there Jess and Lester were there with their mum - they were on the walk last week, then Skye turned up - he's often at the walks we go on and was at the agility Kai and I went to recently.

Like the Meet and Greet we went to a couple of weeks ago, this one was raising money for Greyhound Gap. I didn't know this 'til I started living here, but there are loads of greyhounds that get abandoned or die each year, and the point of these Meet and Greets is to get some money to help them. Monty finds these things hard work - wuss; if you can raise money and get cuddled and fussed at the same time I reckon it's all right way of getting your paws on the lucre.

I got to meet Aunty Lynne who bought Monty to live with Kai, and Aunty Jackie (Aunty Lynne is Aunty Jackie's puppy). The both had hounds with them and we got to meet Vicky - who is going to live with Suggs (Monty's twin) soon, Linus and Lettice (dad thought it was lettuce - a yucky green thing; he can be prat at times. I like the name Lettice - properly said "Le-teace". It's a Medieval form of Lettitia - pet form Lettie).

Lettice and Skye could be brother and sister; their colours are exactly the same.

Skye and Lettice
Skye and Lettice

Linus and Vicky took a very chilled out approach to the whole affair. Vicky has an excuse; she's ten, and looked very regal and cosy. Linus on the other hand is only three and looked tragic - he did it even better than Monty; that's greyhounds and men for you, so you don't stand much chance with a greyhound man do you?

Linus
Linus

Vicky
Vicky

Actually, that's not really fair as Jack, Troy and Mack all make sure they are around to meet the people that come over. Monty on the other hand lies down pretty much straight away, and at one point I thought Kai was going to go him.

Kai
Kai

I bet you all want to know how many food tokens the day raised don't you? I think it was a great result - £200.

You know what, being a hound that helps hounds is pretty wicked. And next Saturday we have our own session at the Northampton Pets at Home where we hope to raise lots of money too. If you would like to come along and see and/or help us we'd love to see you there.

December White Lodge Walk

Last Sunday (yes, a week ago - this week has just flown by) was the December White Lodge walk. We went to Melton Country Park; one has noticed the weather is often somewhat inclement when we go there, but last week, though rather cold, it was rather fine.

Monty came too; Dad suggest MCP as it has nice paths and gentle inclines, so would be OK for Monty to walk on and everyone else kindly agreed.

Monty et al
Monty, Mum, Jack and Me

Our friends Tom and Alice, who we hadn't seen for a while, were there with their dads Nick and Loz. Strange to think that they could have come home with me three years ago, but Alice didn't seem to like me very much. I do rather think that every hound has a home, that day was the day Monty found his and Tom and Alice have certainly found theirs.

Tom and Alice
Tom & Alice with their Dads

It has been nearly three years since Monty came to stay with me - little did I know then he wouldn't be the only one, but I digress. Suggs is another black greyhound who could be Monty's twin to look at and his story is very similar. We chatted on the walk and he is just like Monty was when he came to stay. He's been living with his mum and dad for about six months now and is still very wary of men; he's getting better with lady humans though. There are places in his home he is not sure about, and is still very wary when he eats. He knows his mum and dad are nice and would never let anything horrible happen to him, but like he said, when people have been so nasty to you in the past anyone would be cautious when meeting new humans and doing new things in new places.

Suggs
Suggs

In retrospect, Monty did have an advantage over Suggs - me. I do not want to sound conceited, but Monty has said it was helpful having me around as I could show him what was OK and what was not - not that there is much that isn't at Beast Barracks. Suggs on the other hand is on his own at the moment. I say at the moment because he did say that he's about to get a big sister called Vicky.

Jasper was there with his dad too. Mack, of course, went off to walk with them.

I mentioned earlier that every hound has a home; here is another lad that's found his proper home - Lester. He nearly came to stay with us, but at the time he was living with Dalby and was very protective of him. Now he's living with Jess - who he is totally besotted with - and their mum Tracey.

Lester
Lester

Jess
Jess

As you can see, Jess ran around like a mad thing. So did Lester and so did my dopple Ginga Sol.

Sol
Sol

Sol

As is traditional on walks there were treats back at the car park, and Suggs and Jess's mums brought treats for the humans too, which they all liked.

Treats
Treats in the Car Park

Monty did rather well, though he was getting a bit tired out by the end of the walk. He would like to thank everyone for being so nice to him.

And we discovered that Jess's mum is very talented; she had made some tassels, each one a bit different from the rest. Dad got all of us one each and I think everyone else there bought one too; we all think ours are terrific. And just as we were going Jess's mum came over and gave dad some money to put into The Beastly Beasts bank account 'coz she had sold so many. We think that was really nice of her and want to thank her very much.

Tassles
Tracey's Tassles

And so it just remains for me to wish everyone that goes on White Lodge Walks a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year on behalf of all The Beastly Beasts and mum and dad, and we look forward to seeing everyone on walks and other events in the New Year.

My Broken Leg

My broken leg is on the mend. Dad took me to the vet yesterday and he took some more pictures of the inside of my leg. Afterwards he said that my leg was mending as well as could possibly be hoped for and I was doing really well given the extent of the injury.

I'd like to thank everyone that has been nice to me and wished me well on all the forums; it's nice to know so many people care.

Loads of people have asked how I did it; to be honest I don't know. Kai and me are always last to go back to dad - well, when you have five other hounds to look after him it shouldn't need us as well should it? So off we went as usual, then next thing I know I'm lying on the ground and my leg hurts. I heard dad call and Kai went off to get him. Then Kai appears back with dad who carried me back to the van - eventually.

These are the pictures that Mr. Onyett - the vet - took before he mended my leg.

x-ray
x-ray
My Leg Before it was Fixed

It took the vet two goes to fix my leg because the bone was so shattered, but he put in two plates that I'll have there forever.

x-ray
x-ray
My Leg After it was Fixed

Of course, to put the plates in they needed to cut my leg right open. Dad says I looked like Frankenstein's greyhound!!

stiches
Stitches in My Leg

'Coz the plates are the only thing that will support my leg until the bones grow back I'm not allowed to jump and run - even now - and that is really boring.

Anyway, the vet said that the plates are just where he put them. He also watched me walk up and down - a greyhound on a cat-walk, how cool is that? - and said my gait was really good. It hurts sometimes and I do limp then, but for the most part it's fine.

The pictures the vet took on Friday showed that the bone is starting to grow back and that the bits are starting to be absorbed. I have to go back to the vet in another six weeks for some more pictures which I hope will show the bone has really grown. Mr. Onyett is looking forward to seeing the pictures too; he says that my leg was a really interesting case 'coz of the severity of the injury; I am so pleased to have made his day. (Note to self: make vets lives boring in the future).

And last of all I want to thank my mate Kai for helping dad find me quickly, the ladies at the emergency vet and especially Mr. Onyett for fixing it.

Coventry Meet and Greet

As you'll be knowin', we loike to do our bit to be helpin' other hounds where we can, so last Sunday we went up to Coventry to give our mate Rory a paw at his Meet an' Greet.

Rory
Rory - Supervising From His Bed

Dere was a dozen hounds dere durin' the day, includin' Rory's half brother Kevin.

De way it usually works among us Beasts at dese tings is dat Oi take de little ones, Kai whoos de ladies, Troy leans on anyone dat gets close enough, an' Monty loies on his bed lookin' tragic. The day went accordin' to plan, except dat Troy has some serious competition - not so much in de leanin' stakes, but definitely for gettin' the attention. And who do we tink is givin' de competition? Mack? It was his first Meet an' Greet, and dere is no doubt de lad is a natural at it; he put hisself forward for cuddles and strokes from de punters, but someone else proved even more popular. Lucy? To be truthful now, she's not so grand at dis koind of thing, though she did get some admirers who thought she was cute - obviously dey don't know her dat well den. No, it was our Rosie. Dis girl is a natural born star for de Meet an' Greet. Dis, as far as we know, was her first on an' her tail never stopped waggin', Everyone dat came to see us had to give her a stroke, an' when dey did Rosie made such a fuss of dem dat everyone thought dey was special; den dey just have to some money in de tin - de result we're lookin' for.

De other hounds dat came along was Kim and Cracker; dey was all dressed up in festive stuff which loads of de punters thought was great, an' Domino.

We had a grand day - we loike meetin' new hounds, and it was a 'triffic team effort dat raised:

We've our Meet an' Greet at Northampton Pets at Home the Saturday before Christmas an' it'd be grand to raise dat amount.
